Texas Tech tees off the Betsy Rawls Invitational at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning in Austin
LUBBOCK, Texas – The 17th-ranked Texas Tech women's golf team resumes its fall slate in the state's capital Monday when the Lady Raiders tee off the Betsy Rawls Invitational held at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.
Â
The Lady Raiders, who opened the season with a third-place showing at the Jim West Challenge in Houston, will be one of 15 teams in the challenging fields that features the likes of defending national champion Arizona State as well as six other schools currently ranked in the top 30 of the latest Golfweek Magazine poll.
Â
"It'll be nice to be back in a tournament setting this week," Tech head coach JoJo Robertson said. "We have played well at this tournament in years past, so I'm looking forward to watching our team compete this week."
Â
Tech is the fourth-highest ranked team in the field behind only the 3rd-ranked Sun Devils, No. 10 Kent State and No. 11 Furman. The tournament will also include three other Big 12 schools in host No. 19 Texas, No. 20 Oklahoma and Baylor.
Â
Kent State has won the event each of the last two years where Tech has finished second in 2015 and then fifth last fall. Tech's second-place finish from two years ago was boosted by the play of Gabby Barker, who claimed medalist honors for the second time in her career.
Â
Barker will be joined in the Tech lineup this week by fellow senior Lauren Mason as well as juniors Mami Yamamoto and Emma Ballard and freshman Louisa Brunt. All four joined Barker with top-35 finishes in Tech's season-opening Jim West Challenge.
Â
Tech will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on both days of the 54-hole tournament, which will feature 36 holes Monday and then a final 18 on Tuesday. Live scoring will be provided both days on Golfstat.com.
