Lady Raiders defeat Alabama for second straight sweep
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – With another 4-0 sweep, the Texas Tech Women's Tennis team advanced to the championship match of the 69th Annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic after defeating Alabama this morning.
The Lady Raider (7-2) took a 1-0 advantage Friday night after winning the doubles point with victories on courts two and three.
Doubles duo No. 33 Gabriela Talaba and Felicity Maltby picked up their second win of the weekend with a 6-3 win over Alabama's Daniell and Spielmann.
Teammates Alba Cortina-Pou and Alex Valenstein clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Hinton and Valero.
In singles action, junior Sarah Dvorak quickly took a 6-0, 6-2 win on court three to give Texas Tech a 2-0 lead in the match.
Junior Sabrina Federici followed with a two-set win (6-1, 6-3) over Alabama's Smith Hinton before No. 106 Alex Valenstein completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court four.
Texas Tech will face the No. 8 Auburn in the championship match at 2:30 p.m.
