April 11, 2017 | Women's Golf
Mami Yamamoto recorded her second-straight under par score to lead the Lady Raiders Tuesday
LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 26 Texas Tech was unable to move up the leaderboard over the final round of the Silverado Showdown on Tuesday as the Lady Raiders closed the three-day event in 11th place.
Playing in one of their most-challenging fields this season, the Lady Raiders concluded the 54-hole tournament with a 21-over-par 885 final card following a 6-over 294 over the final 18 holes at the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, California.
Tech was one of nine schools ranked in the top 40 of the latest Golfweek poll to participate in the 18-team field that was bested by No. 4 Stanford. The Cardinal topped No. 5 UCLA by nine strokes for the tournament crown after finishing 16-under over three days.
Tournament host Colorado was the only other school to finish under par as the Buffaloes were 4-under for the tournament. California and Northwestern rounded out the top five in a tie for fourth at 5-over while Oregon finished sixth and Iowa State, San Francisco, San Jose State and Pepperdine closed the top 10.
Mami Yamamoto led the Lady Raiders for the second-consecutive day with a 1-under 71 that pushed her into a tie for 34th overall. It was the second under-par card in as many days for Yamamoto, who rebounded from a 7-over opening round to finish 4-over for the tournament.
Cara Barker had another strong performance as well, firing a 2-over round that placed her 5-over for the tournament and in a tie for 38th individually. Lauren Mason recorded a similar 2-over card to move into a tie for 49th overall with an 8-over final card.
Sofia Garcia rounded out Tech's card with a 3-over final round that moved the freshman into a tie for 41st overall at 6-over for the tournament. Gabby Barker, meanwhile, finished 73rd overall after posting a 7-over score during the final 18 holes.
The tournament was Tech's final test prior to traveling to San Antonio for the Big 12 Championships. The three-day event tees off April 21 from The Dominion Country Club.
