Texas Tech begins Friday’s opening round at 9 a.m. CT from The Dominion Country Club in San Antonio
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will look for its first Big 12 Conference title in school history this weekend when the No. 27 Lady Raiders tee off the conference tournament Friday morning at The Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.
Â
Tech, the No. 5 seed in the nine-team format, will be paired with Texas and TCU during Friday's opening round to start the 54-hole tournament, which is being played at The Dominion for a third-straight year.
Â
"Our team is excited and looking forward to this weekend," Tech head coach JoJo Robertson said. "We've prepared well and the weather has been great lately (for practice), so I think they are ready. It's just a matter of putting it all together and saving our best for the end."
Â
Robertson will stick with her usual lineup consisting of juniors Gabby Barker and Lauren Mason as well as sophomores Mami Yamamoto and Cara Barker and freshman Sofia Garcia. Gabby Barker, Mason and Yamamoto were all in the lineup for Tech a year ago while Cara Barker and Garcia will be making their first career appearance at the conference tournament.
Â
Barker and Mason, meanwhile, were also in Tech's lineup in 2015 when the Lady Raiders matched their best Big 12 finish in school history with a third-place showing at The Dominion. Tech has 10 top-six finishes at the conference tournament since the league formed prior to the 1996-97 campaign.
Â
Tech has proven to be one of the nation's premier programs so far this season as the Lady Raiders have finished among the top-eight teams in 10 of 11 tournaments despite playing in several of the most-competitive fields that college golf has to offer. Tech also has a pair of dual match victories over the likes of Purdue and Texas, both of which that currently rank in the top 35 of the Golfweek rankings.
Â
The Big 12 field features seven of nine teams currently ranked in the top 50 by Golfweek, led by Baylor at No. 17 followed by No. 18 Oklahoma State, No. 20 Oklahoma, No. 23 Texas, No. 27 Tech and No. 35 TCU. Iowa State is just inside the top 50 at No. 47 while Kansas State is No. 51 and Kansas is 98th in the poll.
Â
The Lady Raiders are slated to tee off at 9 a.m. CT Friday morning. Live results will be available all weekend on GolfStat.com as well as by following @TexasTechWGolf on Twitter.
