Men Claim Top-5 USTFCCCA Ranking

This is the highest ranking held by the Red Raiders since 2012.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's track & field team is ranked No. 4 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) computer rankings.
"This is the time of the year when the rankings really start meaning something to me," Head Coach Wes Kittley said. "As we start moving toward the Big 12 Championship and the first round of Nationals, I think it is important that we gain confidence and that the kids feel like there is a good possibility for us to be on the podium. We just have to keep working hard and stay healthy."
This is a four spot jump from last week's ranking, and is the highest position held by the Red Raider men since 2012.
The highest ranking amongst the men is held by Charles Brown, who is in the only long jumper thus far clearing over 27-feet at a moderately-windy 8.25m/27-0.75 earning him the national lead. Brown is first in the world in the wind-aided marks for his jump of 8.30m/27-2.75.
Brown is also ranked 16th in the nation in the triple jump with his 15.93m/52-3.25 leap from Waco this past weekend.
Sitting in a No. 2 overall, and No. 1 west qualifying rank is high jumper Trey Culver. The junior cleared 2.24m/7-4.25 at Texas Relays to take his first meet crown on the Mike A. Myers Stadium track.
Culver has placed first in all three of his outdoor performances this season.
The men's 4x400 relay, headed by Kyle Collins, Steven Champlin, Charles Jones and Vincent Crisp, ran a 3:03.28 in Austin, Texas, which currently ranks fourth in the NCAA.
Benard Keter claimed his No. 5 ranked seat in his first performance of the season at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California where he ran an 8:43.05 3,000-meter steeplechase.
An 8.01m/26-3.50mw long jump from Justin Hall notched a lifetime best and No. 5 nationally ranked mark.
On top of his contribution to the 4x400 ranking, Charles Jones is ranked in two other events. The higher of the two is his 800-meter run where he clocked a 1:46.70 run at the Sun Angel Classic. Jones also clocked a 46.63 run in the open 400m at the Horned Frog Invitational which is ranked 29th on the west outdoor qualifying list.
Men's javelin is headed by freshman Werner Bouwer who has achieved a No. 11 nationally ranked mark of 72.16m/236-9 at the UTSA Invitational.
Divine Oduduru has started strong for the Red Raiders with three ranked performances in the first two meets he has competed in. This past weekend at the Michael Johnson Invitational, Oduduru took the win in the men's 100-meter dash with his moderately-windy 10.10 run, ranked eighth in the NCAA. In Waco, Texas, Oduduru also ran the men's 200-meter dash, where he clocked his No. 11 west outdoor qualifying mark of 20.62.
The men's 4x100 relay (Darien Tennon, Andrew Hudson, Trevin Chambers, Divine Oduduru) ran a No. 4 all-time relay time of 39.40 at the Horned Frog Invitational, which is ranked 17th in the NCAA..
Andrew Hudson is ranked in the top-15 nationally in the men's 200-meter dash with his 20.43 that comes in at No. 12.
A 45.79 time from Kyle Collins in the men's open 400-meter dash in Tempe, Arizona, is ranked 14th in the nation and eighth on the west qualifying list.
Vincent Crisp is ranked in the top-25 in the 800-meter run at No. 21 with his time of 1:47.66, which also ranks third in the conference.
The men's 400-meter hurdles ranked mark is owned by Darien Tennon, coming at No. 22 with a 51.26 run.
Also contributing to the No. 4 ranking is Steven Champlin in the 400m, Drew McMichael in the pole vault and Caleb Richmond in the 400-meter hurdles.
This weekend Texas Tech will host its first home meet of the season, hosting Baylor, Nebraska and Wichita State in the Red Raider Shootout on Friday, April 28.
