The sophomore left-handed pitcher is the 13th first team honoree in program history
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Steven Gingery and Hunter Hargrove have been named All-America honorees by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the publication announced today.
Â
Gingery picked up first team accolades, while Hargrove took home third team honors. Gingery is the 13th first team award winner in program history and the first from CB Newspaper since Shane Wright in 1998. Last year, Eric Gutierrez picked up second team honors from the publication, while Gingery was selected as a freshman All-America honoree. It's Hargrove's first All-America nod as a Red Raider.
Â
Gingery & Hargrove make up the 17th and 18th All-America awards given to a Red Raider from the publication and the 35th & 36th overall since Tech's first in 1969. The Red Raiders have had an All-American or a freshman All-America award winner in every season under head coach Tim Tadlock.
Â
Sophomore left-handed pitcher Gingery has had a strong second year in the scarlet & black. The Huntington Beach, California, native is 9-1 over 14 starts in 2017. His nine victories rank 20th in the NCAA and is one away from the ninth spot all-time in the Texas Tech record books.
Â
Over 85.1 innings, Gingery has piled up 99 strikeouts and held opponents to a .191 average at the plate. His strikeout total is the most by a Red Raider since Chad Bettis (102) in 2010.
Â
The senior infielder Hargrove holds the team-leading in batting average (.342), hits (78) and doubles (24) this season. He was named Big 12 Co-Player of the Year and was a first team All-Big 12 member, the first of each for the Mansfield native during his time at Tech.
Â
The No. 5 Red Raiders open postseason play at home in front of a sold out Rip Griffin Park on Friday, June 2, at 2 p.m. against Delaware. Â
