Swoopes' Road to the WBHOF: Claiming the 1993 SWC Title
June 08, 2017 | Women's Basketball
Lady Raider Great Sheryl Swoopes led Texas Tech to the second SWC title in two years
After suffering a Southwest Conference loss in just the third game of the season, Sheryl Swoopes and the Lady Raiders wouldn't let another team beat them.
Â
Texas Tech ended the 1992-93 season as Southwest Conference regular season co-champions with in-state rivals Texas.
Â
The team headed into the tournament as the No. 2 seed and took down TCU (107-50) and Baylor (91-67) on the way to the finals.
Â
The No. 6 Lady Raiders and No. 13 Longhorns met once again, but this time for the Southwest Conference Tournament Championship.
Â
The Lady Raiders clinched a 78-71 victory over Texas to earn the tournament title for the second straight season.
Â
Swoopes scored a career-best 53 points, the most by any Lady Raider in school history.
Swoopes will be inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday at 6 p.m. A live stream will be available on ESPN3.com or the Watch ESPN app.
