Keenan leads Tech with 12 kills as Red Raiders improve to 3-0 on the season.

BERKELEY, Calif. – Texas Tech volleyball continued its strong start to the season, capturing a sweep of Eastern Washington Friday at Haas Pavilion in its first match at the Cal Classic in Berkeley, Calif.

The Red Raiders (3-0) started fast and held Eastern Washington (1-3) to .070 hitting for the match, the lowest Tech has held an opponent this season, en route to the 25-14, 25-22, 25-22 victory.

"I liked our middles today," head coach Tony Graystone said. "We did a good job of getting them the ball. Haley Harman was really good on the right side. I thought those two positions were clean and did a really nice job of taking advantage of some matchups. Overall, we are taking steps forward. We are still working a few things out, but overall I'm happy with where we are at and looking forward to Saturday."

Junior Katy Keenan led Tech with a match-high 12 kills on 18 attacks, finishing with a .556 clip and adding a match-high three block assists. The Argyle, Texas, native now has back-to-back matches with 12 kills and is hitting .350 for the season.

The Red Raiders jumped all over the Eagles in the first set, taking leads of 9-4 and 15-7 before earning the 25-14 win. Sophomore Chandler Atwood had three of her eight kills in the first frame to lead Tech to a 1-0 overall lead.

After falling behind 11-6 in the second set, a 7-0 run helped Tech overcome the deficit and take the lead at 15-14. Tech's defense helped them close out the set, holding the Eagles to a -.053 attack percentage in the frame.

Freshman Allison White carried the load in the third set, slamming five of her eight kills in the frame to power the Red Raiders to the win.

Junior Missy Owens engineered an efficient Tech offense that saw three Red Raiders hit .333 or better, while junior Reyn Akiu, the Big 12's leader in digs, recorded 19 digs on the back row.

Eagle Ashley Seiler, who entered the match as the Big Sky's leader in kills (4.38/set) led Eastern Washington with nine kills on .120 hitting.
