Curry Advances to Two Finals at Cajun Classic

Connor Curry will play for the singles consolation title for the second straight year at the Cajun Classic.

LAFAYETTE, La. – Connor Curry of the Texas Tech men's tennis team turned in an undefeated day and secured his spot in a pair of finals Saturday at the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus.

Curry rattled off a decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory over South Florida's Jakub Wojcik in consolation semifinals action. He teamed with Artem Kapshuk for two doubles wins over opponents from Georgia State and Oklahoma State, respectively.

Texas Tech will attempt to claim the doubles title at the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic for the second consecutive season. Alex Sendegeya and Bjorn Thomson earned a pair of Top 30 wins to cap last year's event. Curry also will look to defend his singles consolation championship versus LSU's Gabor Csonka, who outlasted Sendegeya by a 7-6 (4), 1-6, 1-0 (10-7) margin in his semifinal matchup.

"It was a better day for the boys," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "I'm happy we were able to continue our momentum in doubles from yesterday, and we have a chance to bring home some hardware tomorrow. That's always the goal. It would be big confidence wise heading into next weekend's ITA All-Americans."
