Texas Tech Cross Country Hits Chile Pepper Festival

Red Raiders travel to the 29th annual Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raider cross country team is returning to the Chile Pepper Festival at Agri Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Saturday, September 30.
This year's meet will host a total of 35 men's teams and 37 women's teams for the 10k and 5k collegiate races at 9:30 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. with live results provided by Flash Results.
This will be the first year that the men will run the 10,000-meter distance, as the course was previously set for an 8,000-meter run. The course at Agri Park is a combination of grass, cinder and uneven terrain.
Traveling to Fayetteville on the women's side is: Kaylee Amershek, Denae Chapman, Nokuthula Dlamini, Arianna Lopez, Bret Leigh Nance, Lauren Offerman, Taryn Otto, Kaitlyn Tharp, Jasmine Torres and Lauren Younger.
Competing on the men's side: Stephen Alvarez, Michael Benoit, Clark Blunt, Nathan Gift, Riley Gonzales, Grant LaSelle, Todd Mickey, Matthew Munoz, Shea Whatley, Ebenether Wondaferew and Joacim Zuniga.
The Red Raiders are headed into Chile Pepper competition after having a weekend of practice. Prior to the week break, Tech swept second-place team finishes at the Texas Invitational.
Additionally, Nokuthula Dlamini snagged second place individually in the women's competition for her highest finish so far, pacing the 4,000-meter course in 14:13.6.
The top finisher for the men was sophomore Shea Whatley, who finished the 6k race in 19:10.8 for 12th overall. Â Â
Following this weekend's competition, the team will travel to Louisville, Kentucky, for the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet on Saturday, October 14.
