Hinton Hails No. 8 All-Time Pentathlon Mark

Pentathlon athlete Kaylee Hinton claims a top-10 school record on day one of the Texas Tech Classic & Multis.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders kicked off the first half of the Texas Tech Classic & Multis this morning, followed by the Red & Black Open meet in the afternoon. Â
Tech had four multi-event athletes competing this afternoon in the pentathlon and heptathlon.
Kaylee Hinton was the leader on the women's side, ending the day with 4,025 points overall. This total fell one point short of Hinton's personal best from last year's Big 12 Indoor Championship where Hinton claimed first place.
Hinton picked up the bulk of her points in the 60-meter hurdles and high jump competitions, clocking an 8.44 run and hitting a bar of 1.72m/5-7.75. At the end of the day, Hinton's 4,025-point total ranked fourth in the nation this season.
Joining Hinton was freshman G'Auna Edwards and sophomore Rose Njoku in 12th (3498 pts) and 14th (3247 pts) respectively. Edwards had personal-best high jump marks four times throughout her competition, ending at a height of 1.72m/5-7.75.
Clark Griffith started his heptathlon competition, ending the first half with 2,760 points in sixth-place. Griffith had a personal-best in the 60-meter dash improving from 7.39 to 7.19.
Claiming second-place finishes in the shot put was Duke Kicinski (17.20m/56-5.25) and Crystal Onwukaife (14.92m/48-11.50)
Jadsia Warden set a new personal-best 200m time, clocking a 24.45 run for second place overall. Â
Ebenther Wondaferew and Riley Gonzales had major improvements in their 5000m and 3000 meter races. Wondaferew shaved off 34 seconds in his 5000m performance, ending with a time of 15:24.37. Gonzales went from a 9:17.42 run to a 8:59.94 3000m time.
