Red Raiders join slew of Texas schools in College Station Saturday morning.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will head to College Station this weekend for Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational for their last race before the Big 12 Championships on Oct. 26.Â
Â
The Red Raiders will be going up against over a dozen other Texas programs, including Texas, TCU, Baylor and host Texas A&M. Head coach Jon Murray says the team is excited to race against familiar competition.
Â
"I look at this as the State of Texas championship," Murray said. "Our athletes are really involved in that because they're running against people they ran against their entire high school career. They're really engaged for how they want to do at this meet and they want to do well for Texas Tech."
Â
"We definitely want to beat all the Texas schools, and it's good that five of the Big 12 schools are there too because we want to see where we're at," said men's team leader Miguel Bautista.
Â
The Red Raiders are coming off a decent showing at a tough race two weeks ago at Wisconsin's Nuttycombe Invitational. Bautista, as he has done all season, paced the Red Raiders, but it was Grant LaSelle who picked up the lone PR for the men's team. The women's side was run by Lauren Offerman, who was one of eight members of the women's team to set a personal best in Wisconsin.
Â
The men will begin Saturday's 8k at 9 a.m. and will be followed by the women, who will be running the 6k at 9:45 a.m.
