Red Raiders set for Big 12 Media Day in Kansas City

LUBBOCK, Texas – Coming off their NCAA Elite Eight run and with only two weeks before the season opener, Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard, seniors Brandone Francis, Matt Mooney, Norense Odiase and Tariq Owens along with sophomore Jarrett Culver are set to appear at Big 12 Media Day on Wednesday at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.
Live coverage will be available at Big12Sports.com and on the Conference's official social media platform from the site of the 2019 Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship.

The contingent of Red Raiders are scheduled to conduct interviews with multiple national televisions and radio networks throughout the day starting with a coach's press conference. Beard, who is entering his third season, led the Red Raiders to a 27-10 record last season with three of those wins in the NCAA tournament against SFA, No. 23 Florida and No. 11 Purdue. He was named the Big 12 Co-Coach of the Year along with earning NABC District 7 Coach of the Year, USBWA District VII Coach of the Year and John McClendon National Coach of the Year honors.

Beard will be joined in Kansas City by Odiase who has averaged 5.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in his previous three seasons with the Red Raiders along with Francis who contributed 3.8 points, 43 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game last season. Mooney and Owens are both graduate transfers, with Mooney coming to Lubbock from South Dakota having scored 1,480 points in his career and Owens from St. John's with 179 career blocked shots.

Culver was named a Preseason Big 12 Honorable Mention selection last week after a freshman season where he averaged 11.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for the Red Raiders. A Lubbock native, Culver went off for 26 points and 12 rebounds against West Virginia for career-highs and also led the team with 55 3-pointers.

Texas Tech will host UTEP in a charity exhibition at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1 to benefit the National Compassion Foundation – Santa Fe Strong before the season-opener on Tuesday, Nov. 6 against Incarnate Word at the United Supermarkets Arena. The Red Raiders are coming off a season where they went 17-1 at home and will host four games in November along with playing at the Hall of Fame Classic on Nov. 20-21 at the Sprint Center.
