October 05, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
Red Raiders aim to match their best Big 12 start in program history.
LUBBOCK, Texas – After a 3-0 home stand, Texas Tech volleyball travels to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on TCU Saturday in a sold-out University Recreation Center at 1 p.m. on FOX Sports Southwest Plus.
Â
Chuck LaMendola (play-by-play) and Alexia Heist (color) will be on the call. Live stats will be available at www.GoFrogs.com, and streams will be online at www.FoxSportsGo.com and the FOX Sports GO app.
Â
The Red Raiders (15-3, 4-0 Big 12) are looking to match their best Big 12 start in program history when they went 5-0 to start their 2000 league slate. Tech has won nine matches in a row and 19 of its last 23 overall dating back to the 2017 season.
Â
Saturday will be Tech's first road trip since opening conference with a 3-1 win at No. 19 Baylor. The Red Raiders completed a three-match home stand with a thrilling five-set win over Kansas State on Wednesday.
Â
TCU (10-5, 2-2) pushed No. 4 Texas to five sets on Wednesday. The Frogs went toe-to-toe with the Horns before falling 15-12 in the fifth set.
Â
Tech went 3-0 against the Horned Frogs last season, sweeping the season series and taking a 3-1 win in the NIVC Semifinal matchup in Fort Worth. The overall series is deadlocked at 9-9 with Tech holding a 4-5 mark all-time in Cowtown.
"We love playing TCU," Argyle native Katy Keenan said. "We've got a good little rivalry going. They have some girls that I've played against since I was little. We've got a lot of Dallas girls, so we expect all of our normal Dallas fans to show up and fill up a section."
Â
KANAS CREATES BALANCE
After recording double-digit kills just once prior to Big 12 play, freshman rightside hitter Brooke Kanas has scored in double figures in all four conference matches and leads the Red Raiders in kills during Big 12 play. She's already received Big 12 Rookie of the Week once, and established a new career high with 23 kills in Wednesday's win over Kansas State. Her emergence gives setter Missy Owens five options to spread the ball to as Kanas has joined for other Red Raiders with over 100 kills on the year.
Â
HILL GETS 1000
While senior Missy Owens eclipsed 3,000 collegiate assists in Tech's win over Iowa State, junior Emily Hill surpassed 1,000 career kills during the first set of Wednesday's win over Kansas State. While both players started their college careers elsewhere, they have been vital pieces to Graystone's turnaround since stepping on campus.
