Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn set to face UNC Asheville in title match
SURPRISE, Arizona/Austin, Texas – The Texas Tech doubles team of Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn picked up their fourth-consecutive win in the desert to advance to the final match at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Fall Championships in Surprise, Arizona.
"It feels great," said Wynn. "To come back this year and reach the finals this time around is great. It feels great to be in the top-two, but at the end of the day, you want to be that national champion and that's where our minds are at; today was a great win to get, but we've got to come back tomorrow and try to finish it off."
The two have made an early connection as doubles partners, and their time spent competing with each other this fall is starting to pay off.
"With Bjorn, he's probably the first true doubles player that I've played with," said Wynn of his fellow playing partner. "He knows where to be on the court and that's big. I think our personalities work well and we get along and see eye to eye on a lot of things."
The championship bout with UNC Asheville is set take place at 12 p.m. CT. Fans can view tomorrow's match at https://www.itatennis.com/ITA/Events/Oracle_ITA_National_Fall_Championships_Live_Streaming/Oracle_ITA_National_Fall_Championships_Live_Streaming.aspx.
At the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Jackson Cobb led the way for the Red Raiders, as the junior defeated Johnny Goodwin of the University of Texas in the semifinal round to advance to the final match in his flight.
Tech's second win on the day came from Ilgiz Valiev, as the sophomore delivered a straight-set victory over Constantin Frantzen of Baylor by a count of 6-3, 6-4. Valiev would later be crowned champion of the A White Flight following a forfeit by his opponent.
