Texas Tech improves to 8-2, the best start for a head coach in their first season
LUBBOCK, Texas – Lady Raider Basketball kicked off the Christmas break with a bang as Texas Tech defeated Texas Southern, 75-55, on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Lady Raiders improve to 8-2 on the season. With the eighth win after 10 games played, Coach Stollings has the best start by a Lady Raider head coach in their first season since Gay Benson started the 1977-78 season at 8-2.
Â
After a slow start, the Lady Raiders fired back with a 22-7 second quarter. It was the third time this season that Tech has held an opponent to less than 10 points in a quarter.
Tech opened the final quarter on a 12-2 run to extend the lead to 25 points, the biggest lead of the day. Freshman Chrislyn Carr scored 11 of the 22 points in that quarter. The Lady Tigers tried to battle back, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 20-point lead.
Texas Tech's 53.8 percent from the 3-point line is the best shooting percentage of the season.Â
Â
Junior forward Brittany Brewer led the team with 21 points and 13 rebounds for her seventh double double of the season and 10th of her career. Carr followed with 19 points of her own in just 19 minutes of action.
