13 All-Big 12 Honors on Day One of Conference Championship

Texas Tech track & field collects 12 All-Big 12 honors and 22 qualifying marks on day one of the Big 12 Championship.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders started their Big 12 Championship competition today, ending the first half with 13 All-Big 12 honors.
Texas Tech also tallied 22 qualifying marks to continue on in tomorrow's competition. 13 of the 22 finals qualifiers were on the men's side and nine on the women's.
The first to complete their competition today was the women's pentathlon, with Kaylee Hinton leading the charge for the Red Raiders. Hinton notched a grand-total 4,075 points to ink her name in the Texas Tech indoor record book as the No. 5 all-time pentathlon performer. She began her slate with a personal-best 8.25 60-meter hurdle run. Hinton then matched her personal-best bar of 1.73m/5-8 in the high jump, and concluded the competition with a personal-best 2:17.58 800-meter run. She then went on to compete and qualify in the 60-meter hurdles by matching her personal-best from early in the morning. She soon after snagged her second All-Big 12 honor of the day in the long jump competition. Hinton was joined by G'Auna Edwards and Rose Njoku un the pentathlon, claiming seventh and eighth with 3,754 and 3,592 points respectively.
Also garnering a silver medal in today's competition was pole vaulter Brandon Bray. To claim All-Big 12 Honors, Bray cleared 5.39m/17-8.25.
Leading the men's long jump was Charles Brown and Odaine Lewis. Brown hit a fifth-attempt best jump of 7.93m/26-0.25 for his second-place finish, followed by a personal-best matching 7.80m/25-7.25 leap from Lewis.
Also having a big day in the long jump was Zuliat Alli. The sophomore hit a 6.01m/19-8.75 mark to claim fourth-place All-Big 12 honors.
Seasons Usual and Duke Kicinski swept the sixth place spots in the men's and women's weight throw. Usual had a four-foot improvement to get to her sixth-place position, tossing a distance of 17.81m/58-5.25. Kicinski claimed his all-conference honors from his 18.47m/60-7.25 throw.
The Red Raiders will pick back up at the Big 12 Championship  tomorrow, with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon events, starting at 11 a.m.
