Softball Run-Rules Lady Demons for Series Sweep

Workman and Hamilton go yard as Red Raiders pound out a season-high 19 hits.

After a pair of 2-1 victories Friday to launch their 2018 home slate, the Red Raiders (7-5) scored in every inning Saturday as nine Red Raiders secured hits and six compiled multi-hit performances against NSU (8-6).

"I'm so proud of our kids and the way they are fighting for each game," head coach Adrian Gregory said. "We came out today not satisfied with our wins yesterday and really focused on how we were going to execute our game plan today. Karli (Hamilton) and Kiana (Workman) both got into some balls to give us an early lead, and we didn't let up. I'm excited for our kids."

Junior Kiana Workman and redshirt sophomore Karli Hamilton both connected on three-run shots to help Tech jump out to a 6-2 lead after two. Workman posted a career day going 4-for-4 with four RBI, setting a new career high in hits while matching her best RBI output. Hamilton tallied a career-high with four RBI while finishing 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.

Workman notched an RBI single in the third, and Tech busted the game open in the fourth with four runs on five hits, pushing the lead to 11-3. Hamilton, along with Freshman Olga Zamarripa and redshirt freshman Michaela Cochran helped push across runs for the Red Raiders in the frame. Cochran finished the weekend going 5-for-11 and leads the team with 17 hits on the season, hitting safely in 10-of-12 games this season.

After NSU cut the lead to 11-4 in the top of the fifth, Tech earned the winning run in the bottom half of the inning. Three consecutive singles to start the inning loaded the bases, and with one out, outfielder Heaven Burton belted a single to center field that would score Tech's third walk-off win of the weekend.

Freshman Erin Edmoundson (4-1) tallied her third win on the weekend in relief. The Deer Park, Texas, native struck out four in 1.2 innings of work, giving up a run on two hits. She followed a solid start from senior Cheyene Powell, who went 3.1 innings and gave up three runs on four hits.

Lady Devil Mikayla Brown (4-2) took the loss for Northwestern State after surrendering six runs in just 1.0 innings. First baseman Hayley Barbazon led NSU at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a home run, a walk and three runs scored.
