Red Raiders Complete Day One of UTSA Invitational

Crystal Onwukaife wins shot put with personal best throw
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas Tech Track and Field teams completed day one of the UTSA Invitational.

After five events scored, the men's team sits on top of the leader board with 35 points and the women's team holds onto fourth place with 21 points.

Sophomore Crystal Onwukaife posted a career best in the shot put with a throw of 16.09m (52-9.50) to win the event.
Â
Junior Eric Kicinski placed second in the shot put with a throw of 16.97m (55-8.25).

In the men's javelin throw, Red Raiders Werner Bouwer and Hunter Hopkins took second and third place, respectively. Bouwer recorded a 68.39m (224-4) mark for his first of the season while Hopkins posted a 59.28m (194-6) mark.

Sophomore Doleta Amendariz-Lasa led the women's team with a fourth place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.69m (172-10).

Freshmen Alexandria Johnson and Seasons Usual recorded their first collegiate marks in the outdoor hammer. Johnson took seventh place with a throw of 50.69m (166-3). Usual finished 14th in the event with a throw of 40.45m (132-8).

Usual also competed in the shot put where she placed 8th with a mark of 13.22m (43-4.50).

Freshman Taryn Otto posted a time of the 17:40.36 to take fifth place in her first collegiate outdoor meet.

In the men's 5000m, sophomore Nathan Gift was the Red Raiders top finisher as he placed second with a personal best time of 15:25.27. Joacim Zuniga followed in sixth place with a time of 15:53.54 while Ebenether Wondaferew finished with a time of 15:53.81 in seventh place.
