Red Raiders will play in their final event before the Big 12 Championships next weekend in Dallas
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will open its second tournament this week alone Saturday morning when the Red Raiders tee off at the Lady Boilermaker Classic hosted at the Ackerman-Allen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Â
The Red Raiders, who finished third Tuesday at the Dale McNamara Invitational in Tulsa, are one of just six teams in the field, joining host Purdue as well as Augusta, Northern Illinois, Butler and Ball State. Tech, No. 53 in the latest Golfstat poll, is the second-highest ranked team in that group, trailing only the No. 21 Boilermakers.
Â
This is the first time the Red Raiders have played in the Lady Boilermaker Classic under head coach JoJo Robertson, who previously spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Purdue before being named to her current position prior to the 2009-10 campaign.
Â
Robertson will utilize the same lineup she has used all spring as seniors Gabby Barker and Lauren Mason will be joined by junior Mami Yamamoto and freshmen Louisa Brunt and Amy Taylor. Tech has recorded a top-five finish in three of its last four tournaments using this lineup.
Â
Barker, in particular, has found success in recent weeks with back-to-back top 10 finishes at the Bruzzy Challenge in Dallas (6th) and then earlier this week at the Dale McNamara Invitational (T-5th) held in Tulsa. She posted Tech's lowest composite score in both tournaments, pushing her season stroke average down to a 74.2 clip that ranks second behind Mason's 73.9 average.
Â
Tech will be paired with both Purdue and Augusta during Saturday's opening round, which is slated for a 7 a.m. CT shotgun start. The Red Raiders will play 36 holes Saturday followed by a final 18 on Sunday morning. Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament at Golfstat.com.
Â
The Lady Boilermaker Invitational marks Tech's final tournament leading up to the Big 12 Championships next weekend in Dallas. The three-day tournament will run April 20-22 from the Dallas Athletic Club.
