Red Raiders Ready For NCAA Columbus Regional
May 13, 2018 | Men's Golf
Tech will tee off at 6:30 a.m. CT on Monday
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13 Texas Tech men's golf team will begin NCAA postseason play on Monday, in the Columbus Regional, at The Scarlet Course, in Columbus, Ohio.
The Red Raiders, the regional's No. 3 seed, are participating in the NCAA Tournament for the 17th-straight year, a record streak for any Tech athletic program.
Tech is scheduled to tee off at 6:30 a.m. CT, paired with top-seeded No. 1 Oklahoma State, and No. 12 Illinois, the regional's No. 2 seed. Adam Blomme is slated to lead the way off the first tee, followed by Ivan Ramirez, Sandy Scott, Hurly Long and Big 12 Player of the Year Fredrik Nilehn, in that order.
"You can't get tight now," Tech head coach Greg Sands said. "You play your best when you're loose and having fun, especially in a situation like this. Hopefully we can take this energy we have into tomorrow, because if we have fun, stay positive and stay patient, those could end up being the keys to the week."
Tech has had success in Columbus before, both at the 2002 NCAA Championships and at the 2013 Columbus Regional, where the Red Raiders qualified for the national championship. The Scarlet Course is a 7,364-yard track, where par will be 71 this week.
"I think they have the rough up a little bit more than they did in 2013," Sands said. "Regardless of that, the key is going to be staying patient. This isn't a course that you can go out and just rip up from everywhere and opportunities—you have to put the ball in the fairway, and take what you can get from there.
The top four individual scores of the five participants each day will count toward the overall team score. The top five teams from each region will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 24-30, at Karsten Creek, in Stillwater, Okla.
Live scoring will be available all week via Golfstat. For more news and updates on Texas Tech Men's Golf, follow the team on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

We definitely saw it go in from the tee box, and this is definitely not staged. #WreckEm #NCAAGolf pic.twitter.com/SK8LOyu9wq
