Preston Gordon and Seth Collins both joined the football program at the start of first summer session
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury announced Tuesday the addition of Rice graduate transfer Preston Gordon and Oregon State transfer Seth Collins to the football roster.
Â
Gordon arrives in Lubbock with one year of eligibility remaining after making 28 starts on the defensive line at Rice. Collins, meanwhile, will be able to participate at wide receiver immediately with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Â
"We are glad to have both Preston and Seth on campus now along with our freshman class," Kingsbury said. "They will add significant experience to our roster this season, and we are fortunate they have chosen to join our program."
Â
Gordon, a native of McKinney, Texas, recorded 87 tackles and 7.0 sacks over the past three seasons at Rice where he earned his undergraduate degree this May. He appeared in 35 games during his career as an Owl as he led the interior line in tackles during both his sophomore and junior seasons.
Â
Collins caught 48 passes for 548 yards and two touchdowns during his two-plus seasons at Oregon State where he began his career as the Beavers' starting quarterback in 2015. He became the first Oregon State true freshman to start at quarterback since 1996 during his first season on campus as he totaled 580 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground, while throwing for 936 yards and six touchdowns.
Â
Collins moved to wide receiver for the final game of the 2015 season and then remained there as a sophomore in 2016. The San Diego, California native led the team with 36 catches his sophomore season, totaling 418 yards and a touchdown through the air. He followed with 12 receptions for 130 yards as a junior in 2017 before a season-ending injury limited him to just three games.
Â
Gordon and Collins will both be with the Red Raiders on Sept. 1 when Tech opens the 2018 season against Ole Miss in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff hosted at NRG Stadium in Houston. Season tickets are still on sale by purchasing online or by contacting the Tech Ticket Office at 806-742-TECH.
