The Red Raiders (12-3, 1-0) started league play with a 3-1 win at No. 19 Baylor on Wednesday, marking the program's first ranked road win since 2004. Tech carries a six-game winning streak into Saturday as it looks for its first 2-0 start to league play since 2000.
Â
"The first one is always the hardest, and to do it on the road – we knew it was going to be a tough match, and I'm so happy to see us play the way we did," Graystone said of Wednesday's win. "The first set didn't go our way, and everything on our end – our attitude, our personality, our mood – nothing changed, and we just started over and got it figured out."
Â
Saturday's tilt kicks off a three-match home stand for the Red Raiders, now in year three under Graystone. The victory in Waco closed out 12 straight matches away from home that included trips to six different cities over three weeks.
Â
The Mountaineers (7-6, 0-1) dropped its Big 12 opener at home to Iowa State on Wednesday to end a four-game win streak. WVU returned two starters from a squad that went 21-13 last season and fell to Ole Miss in the NIVC Semifinals.
Â
"They're long, they've got some really nice athletes, they block very well and they're really well coached," Graystone said of the Mountaineers. "They took a great step forward as a program last year as well. I feel like us and them have been on a similar arc. They're a hungry team and a prideful group. I know they're going to come in and battle. For us it's about executing our game plan and being able to get our offense balanced like always."
Â
This will mark the 15th matchup between the two teams with the series split down the middle at 7-7. The two sides split last season's meetings with Tech winning in four sets in Lubbock before WVU rallied for a five-set win in Morgantown.
Â
The match will stream on TexasTech.TV with Geoff Haxton on the call. Live stats are available through SidearmStats. As always, be sure to follow @TexasTechVB on social media for updates and check back with www.TexasTech.com for a postgame recap.
