Men’s and women’s teams finish prestigious Nuttycombe with several personal bests.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders completed action at Wisconsin's Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, walking away with several personal records to show for the trip.
Â
The women's team ran first, placing 33rd in a large field of teams. For the second straight meet, they were paced by Lauren Offerman. The sophomore, who crossed in 21:56.5, was one of six Red Raiders that PR'd in the women's 'A' race. Seselia Dala turned in a collegiate PR with a 22:13.6. Sophomore Allison Halloran PR'd in her second career 6k with a 23:24.0. She was joined by freshmen Binta Ka (23:01.3), Jazmyn Martinez (23:17.4) and Natalie Gomez (23:28.9), who were running their first career 6k races.
Tech also ran women in the 'B' race. Arianna Lopez turned in a collegiate best with a 23:06.4, and she was followed by freshman Sydney White, who was running her first career 6k. Jessica Gallardo did not PR but took 105th with a 23:36.3.
Â
"This was a tough competition," said head coach Jon Murray after the meet. "Almost the entire women's team has personal best times and still gets beat in the invitational race. There were some great efforts by the ladies and progress by all."
Â
The men were once again led by Miguel Bautista. The redshirt senior was the lone Tech runner to place in the top-100, finishing 77th. He ran a 25:18.9. Crossing behind him were Cornelius Kiprotich, Michael Benoit and Grant LaSelle. LaSelle was the lone Red Raider scorer on the men's team that PR'd.
Â
"The men's side was similar [to the women's side]," Murray said. "This experience is something we can build on this season."
Â
The Red Raiders will return home to run in Texas again at the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invitational on Oct. 13.
