RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
- Head coach Tony Graystone is just two wins away from the 500th victory of his coaching career.
- Rising up in Tech's Sunday match against TCU, sophomore Karrington Jones racked up a career-high 12 kills against the Horned Frogs. Jones, who ranks fourth in the league with a .340 hitting percentage, leads the team with 14 solo blocks and sits second with 52 total blocks.
- Meeting first in 1989, Iowa State leads the series 28-21. Tech won the inaugural meeting, 3-1, on Dec. 1, 1989, and went on a 15-match win streak that stretched from 1995 to 2002. After a 12-year dry spell, the Red Raiders cracked a 23-match losing streak with a 3-1 win at United Supermarkets Arena last season.
- Three Red Raiders will celebrate birthdays in the month of October. Sharing the same birthday, junior Emerson Solano and freshman Kylie Trefflich (who will turn 21 and 19, respectively) will celebrate their special days on Friday, Oct. 18, before sophomore Brooke Kanas turns 20 years old on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
- Remaining among the league's leaders, senior Emily Hill ranks second in the Big 12 Conference with 4.51 kills per set and 4.99 points per set. Hill has buried a league-leading 311 kills and also ranks 13th in the nation in kills per set.
- Junior Emerson Solano continues to impress on the floor after she took over as Tech's starting libero last season. Solano leads the Red Raiders and ranks fifth in the Big 12 Conference with 3.88 digs per set.
- Coming together on the floor, the Red Raiders rank 47th in the nation with 13.5 kills per set. The Red Raiders are out hitting their opponents .246 to .200 and Tech has accumulated 932 kills over 69 sets.
- Three Red Raiders have started every single match this season. Emily Hill, Allison White and Emerson Solano have been a stronghold for the Red Raiders after starting all 18 matches this season.
- Proving to be a strong defensive weapon for the Red Raiders, senior Emily hill is just 28 digs away from the 1000th dig of her career. She accumulated 14 digs as a freshman at Mississippi State before posting 307 in her first season at Tech in 2017. Hill collected 288 digs as a junior last season and has already racked up 193 digs this year.
- You're not just seeing things. Freshmen Lauren Dodson and Lindsey Dodson are one of the few pairs of sisters to grace the Texas Tech volleyball program. The Dodsons are the first set of twins that head coach Tony Graystone has ever coach in his now 21st season of coaching.
- After a stellar outing at the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts, sophomore Brooke Kanas became the fourth Red Raider in program history to earn a spot on the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team. She spent June 23-29 training with the nation's domestic program in Anaheim, Calif. She is the youngest Red Raider to have spent a summer training with the U.S. Collegiate National Team.
- The Texas Tech volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as an Academic Honor Roll Team after the squad posted a top-25 cumulative grade point average among all Division I institutions for the 2018-19 academic year. The prestigious honor was achieved thanks to a historic year in the classroom. In the fall, Tech placed a program-record 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams – nine first-team selections and one second-team nod. The Red Raiders also paced the Big 12 for the second straight year as four student-athletes recorded 4.00 grade point averages.
