Culver To Make NBA Debut on Wednesday

LUBBOCK, Texas – Jarrett Culver will make his NBA debut on Wednesday night when the Minnesota Timberwolves open their season against the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclay's Center in New York.
Culver, who earned Consensus All-America honors and was named the Big 12 Player of the Year last season for Texas Tech, averaged 12.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists through five preseason games for the Timberwolves. He was selected No. 6 in the NBA Draft by Phoenix before a draft-night trade to Minnesota.
Zhaire Smith is listed on the Philadelphia 76ers roster but is inactive for the season opener against Boston. Smith was picked No. 16 in the 2019 NBA Draft before averaging 6.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in six games for the 76ers. A Garland native, he averaged 11.3 points and 5.0 rebounds as a freshman at Texas Tech where he helped lead the program to the NCAA Elite Eight before declaring for the draft.
A Lubbock native, Culver played two seasons with the Red Raiders before declaring for the NBA Draft following his sophomore season. Culver scored 1,119 points in 75 career games and helped to lead the team to the 2019 NCAA National Championship Final. He averaged 18.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last season, including going off for 31 points in the regular-season finale at Iowa State to help secure the program's first Big 12 regular season title.
Culver and the Timberwolves will tip off at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Brooklyn, New York with the game being broadcasted on Fox Sports North. The team will then play at Charlotte on Friday before hosting their home opener on Sunday against Miami at 6 p.m. in the Target Center. The 76ers will play at Detroit on Saturday and Atlanta on Monday. The Timberwolves and 76ers will match up against each other on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
