RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
- In his 21st season of coaching, Tony Graystone earned the 500th victory of his career against Kansas on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The win marked his first victory against the Jayhawks. Graystone now boasts a 500-215 overall record and 60-55 mark at Texas Tech.
- Emily Hill reached two career milestones thanks to two standout performances against Kansas and No. 1 Baylor last week. With her first dig against Baylor, she became a member of the 1,000 career-dig club and is now one of four Red Raiders in program history to record 1,000 digs and 1,000 kills. Leading both teams with 13 kills, Hill eclipsed the 1,500 career-kill mark to go along with her other milestone.
- Getting big at the net, sophomore Karrington Jones posted a career-high 10 total blocks to help the Red Raiders to their first win over Kansas since the 2010 season. She posted one solo block and tallied a whopping nine block assists in the five-set victory over the Jayhawks. She later picked up two block assists and one kill against No. 1 Baylor in Waco, Texas.
- Continuing her hot streak, freshman Caitlin Dugan played her role in Tech's key win over Kansas last Wednesday. She posted her highest kill count to date against the Jayhawks as she led the match with 16. She also combined for four block assists to help Tech to their first win against Kansas since the 2010 season. She finished Wednesday's match with 3.20 kills per set on a .212 hitting percentage. Later in the week against No. 1 Baylor, she buried five kills and raked six digs.
- The Texas Tech volleyball team celebrates three birthdays in the month of October. Freshman Kylie Trefflich turned 19 on Oct. 18 and the next day Emerson Solano celebrated her 21st birthday. Next up, sophomore Brooke Kanas is set to turn 20 years old on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
- The Red Raiders have posted a trio of key wins against teams ranked higher in the NCAA Women's Volleyball RPI. Tech opened up the season with a clean sweep over VCU – who currently ranks 55th – before edging 45th-ranked Ohio State, 3-2. Tech's other victory against a higher-ranked team came last Saturday when they downed Iowa State (28th) by a score of 3-1 in Ames, Iowa.
- The last time Tech played on their home court, they produced their largest set victory of the season. Forcing an important fifth set against Kansas, the Red Raiders downed the Jayhawks 25-13 before winning the match in the next set.
- Emily Hill has recorded double-digit kills in every single match this season. Her 4.37 kills per set ranks 22nd in the nation and her 354 kills on the season stands ninth among all Division I student-athletes.
- Picked to finish eighth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll, Texas Tech has posted three victories over higher-seeded conference opponents. Tech topped fourth-ranked Iowa State (3-1), Kansas State (3-0) and Kansas (3-2) in the front half of Big 12 play.
- You're not just seeing things. Freshmen Lauren Dodson and Lindsey Dodson are one of the few pairs of sisters to grace the Texas Tech volleyball program. The Dodsons are the first set of twins that head coach Tony Graystone has ever coach in his now 21st season of coaching.
- After a stellar outing at the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts, sophomore Brooke Kanas became the fourth Red Raider in program history to earn a spot on the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team. She spent June 23-29 training with the nation's domestic program in Anaheim, Calif. She is the youngest Red Raider to have spent a summer training with the U.S. Collegiate National Team.
- The Texas Tech volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as an Academic Honor Roll Team after the squad posted a top-25 cumulative grade point average among all Division I institutions for the 2018-19 academic year. The prestigious honor was achieved thanks to a historic year in the classroom. In the fall, Tech placed a program-record 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams – nine first-team selections and one second-team nod. The Red Raiders also paced the Big 12 for the second straight year as four student-athletes recorded 4.00 grade point averages.
