RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
- The Red Raiders are set to honor four seniors on this season's squad. Chandler Atwood, Kylie Rittimann and Maggie Sagers have been members of this Texas Tech squad since the beginning of the Tony Graystone era and Emily Hill joined the gang after spending her freshman season at Mississippi State. Tech's Senior Day ceremony will take place after Saturday's match. This year's senior class has racked up 63 victories, the most of any senior class since the 2003 season.
- Now 7-8 in Big 12 Conference play (17-12 on the season), Tech's comeback at TCU marked the Red Raiders' most league wins since going 9-11 in 2002. Additionally, the win pushed Tech to its fourth Big 12 road win – its most Big 12 season road wins since posting four back in 2001.
- Last Thursday, the Red Raiders set a program record with 12 honorees on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams. Nine Red Raiders – Emily Hill, Kylie Rittimann, Maggie Sagers, Emerson Solano, Allison White, Katy Northcut, Brooke Kanas and Audrey Smith – made the first team and four Red Raiders – Hannah Allison, Chandler Atwood, Alex Kirby and Karrington ones – were honored on the second team.
- For the second time this season, junior libero Emerson Solano was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league Monday. The award is the second of her career. Solano finished the week with a pair of double-digit dig matches and led the Big 12 with 34 digs through nine sets. She opened the week with an 18-dig performance to help the Red Raiders to their second win over Iowa State this season – the first time since 2004 that Tech has swept the season series. Solano returned to the court later in the week and produced a match-leading 16 digs in Tech's key, five-set victory at TCU. She collected three assists in the contest to help Tech to its seventh Big 12 win of the season, marking the most league wins the Red Raiders have collected since 2002. Solano's 18 digs against Iowa State tied for fourth in the league in four-setters this week and her 16 digs against TCU ranked fourth in five-set matches. Heading into the week, Solano ranks second among all Big 12 student-athletes with 445 digs and third with 4.01 digs per set.
- Sophomore Alex Kirby came alive and posted a pair of double-double matches last week against Iowa State and TCU. She kicked off the week with a 46-assist, 12-dig effort in Tech's victory over Iowa State and returned later in the week with 58 assists and 12 more digs at TCU.
- The Red Raiders have posted four key wins against teams ranked higher in the NCAA Women's Volleyball RPI. Tech opened up the season with a clean sweep over VCU – who currently ranks 49th – before edging 64th-ranked Ohio State, 3-2. Tech's third victory against a higher-ranked team came when they downed Iowa State (37th) by a score of 3-1 in Ames, Iowa. The Red Raiders earned their fourth win against higher-ranked opponents last Wednesday with an identical 3-1 win over Iowa State in Lubbock at United Supermarkets Arena.
- Four Red Raiders rank in the league's top 10. Emily Hill sits second overall with 4.28 kills per set and 4.76, along with 10th in the league with .25 aces per set. Playing the least amount of sets out of the league's top-10 setters, Alex Kirby ranks fifth in the Big 12 with 10.30 assists per set. The final Red Raider to rank in the league's top 10, junior libero Emerson Solano ranks third in the league with 4.01 digs per set.
- Collecting double-digit kills in every single match this season, senior Emily Hill's 484 kills this season ranks fifth all-time in Tech's single-season record book and is the highest kill count recorded by a Red Raider since 2006. Additionally, her 1,398 attacks rank second in Tech's single-season history. Hill has collected 1,633 kills over the course of her career and her 1,251 kills as a Red Raider ranks fourth all-time in the Texas Tech record book.
- Texas Tech came in at No. 78 in this week's RPI rankings.
- Picked to finish eighth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll, Texas Tech has posted five victories over higher-seeded conference opponents. Tech topped fourth-ranked Iowa State twice (3- 1, 3-1), Kansas State (3-0), TCU (3-2) and Kansas (3-2) in Big 12 play.
- Junior Allison White is just 10 blocks away from reaching the 300th block of her career. She tallied 121 blocks as a freshman in 2017 before racking up 80 as a sophomore in 2018. White currently boasts 89 blocks this season. Only 10 Red Raiders have recorded 318 or more blocks in program history.
- Emerson Solano joined the 1000 career-dig club thanks to a 2Â8-dig performance at Oklahoma on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Solano collected 171 digs as a freshman, 444 digs last season and she has tallied 445 digs this season. She now has 1,060 digs in her three-year career. Her 445 digs this season ties for eighth in Tech's single-season record book.
- Putting in just as much effort in the classroom, Emily Hill was named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team. Hill carries a 3.47 GOA as a sports management major.
- Tech's victory over Iowa State last Wednesday marked the first time the Red Raiders have topped the Cyclones two times in the same season since 2004.
- The Red Raiders celebrated four birthdays this month. Senior Kylie Rittimann turned 22 years old on Wednesday, Nov. 6 (game day against Kansas), twins Lauren and Lindsey Dodson celebrated their 19th birthday on Friday, Nov. 8, and Tatum Rohme turned 20 years old on Wednesday, Nov. 23.
- After a stellar outing at the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts, sophomore Brooke Kanas became the fourth Red Raider in program history to earn a spot on the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team. She spent June 23-29 training with the nation's domestic program in Anaheim, Calif. She is the youngest Red Raider to have spent a summer training with the U.S. Collegiate National Team.
- The Texas Tech volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as an Academic Honor Roll Team after the squad posted a top-25 cumulative grade point average among all Division I institutions for the 2018-19 academic year. The prestigious honor was achieved thanks to a historic year in the classroom.
