Texas Tech finishes 2-1 on the weekend
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 35 Texas Tech Women's Tennis team took third place at the 71st annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic after a 2-1 weekend in Alabama.

After dropping a 4-0 decision to No. 13 Oklahoma State in the semifinals, the Lady Raiders responded with a 4-2 win over No. 22 Illinois to win the third place game.

With a 1-1 record on the day, the Lady Raiders improve to 8-4 on the season.

"That was a gutsy win. We have been looking for that response from this group and they toughened up in a big way," Head Coach Todd Petty said. "Now we have to learn what that feels like and get ready for a very dangerous TCU team."

LADY RAIDERS 4, ILLINOIS 2
The Fighting Illini captured the first point of the match with wins on doubles courts one and three. Doubles pair Felicity Maltby and Nell Miller defeated No. 60 Belaya and Pedraza Novak, 6-3, marking their seventh win of the season.

In singles, the Lady Raiders tied the match, 1-1, as Denise-Antonela Stoica recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory on court four. Illinois regained the lead (2-1) with a win on court one.

It was all Texas Tech from there as the Lady Raiders won on courts three, five and six to clinch the match. Kennedy Bridgforth, Olivia Peet and Lana Rush all dropped their first sets, but came storming back with straight wins to capture match wins.

Bridgforth's win was the first at the No. 3 line for the freshman. Peet improved to 3-0 in dual match play this season while Rush improved to 6-1 on the season and 4-0 when playing at the No. 6 line.

OKLAHOMA STATE 4, LADY RAIDERS 0
The Lady Raiders dropped a 4-0 decision to the No. 13 Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Saturday morning. The Cowgirls clinched the doubles point on Friday night with wins on courts one and three.

In singles play, Texas Tech dropped three straight matches on courts one, two, and three, to end the match. No. 36 Felicity Maltby fell to No. 23 Katarina Stresnakova in straight sets (6-4, 6-2).
