Texas Tech begins the first of two tournaments this week at the BYU Invitational Monday morning
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team kicks off Spring Break with its first of two tournaments this week as the Red Raiders tee off Monday at the BYU Invitational in Utah.
Â
The Red Raiders, who are coming off a ninth-place showing a few weeks ago at the ICON Invitational in Houston, will be more than familiar with the Snow Canyon Country Club layout after finishing in a tie for third at the event a year ago.
Â
Mami Yamamoto was Tech's highest individual finisher at the 2018 event as she finished 1-over-par for the tournament. Amy Taylor added a top-25 showing as well thanks in part to a 4-under 68 final round that marked the lowest of her career. She closed the two-day tournament in a tie for 23rd overall.
Â
This will be the third event this spring for the Red Raiders, who head to Georgia later this weekend for the Valspar Augusta Invitational. Following this week, Tech will only have a match play event hosted by San Diego State on March 25-27 and the Bruzzy Challenge in Dallas on April 1-2 as its final preparations for the Big 12 Championships. The conference tournament is slated for April 14-16 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In addition to the event in Utah, freshman Destiny Arenas will take part in the Midwestern State Invitational hosted Monday and Tuesday in nearby Wichita Falls. It is the second tournament appearance of Arenas' career as she previously took part in the Betsy Rawls Invitational this past October.
Â

Sofia Garcia will headline head coach JoJo Robertson's lineup this week as she will be joined by Cecilie Nielsen, Louisa Brunt, Anna Dong and Yamamoto. Taylor will also participate in the event as an individual.
