No. 29 Red Raiders Split Friday Doubleheader

Men's tennis enters final match before conference play at 12-7 on the year
HOUSTON, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team defeated Utah State by a score of 4-0 to finish their day at 1-1 at the 61st Ralph O'Connor Rice Invitational on Friday.
In their first match against No. 45 Dartmouth, Tech fell behind early by suffering losses on doubles courts one and three to give the Big Green a 1-0 match advantage.
In singles play, the Red Raiders would surrender two more match points before storming back, beginning with a win by freshman Franco Ribero. His straight-set win would be followed by Matheus Leite, who snagged Tech's second match point of the morning with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 victory. The third point for the Red Raiders was secured by junior Parker Wynn, who continued his hot streak with yet another win in straight sets.
At 3-3, Dartmouth pulled away in the third set on court three to clinch the match.
In their second match, the Red Raiders swept the Aggies of Utah State, beginning with wins on courts one and two in doubles play.
In singles, Tech was once again led by Wynn, who won his seventh-straight match with a 6-2, 6-4 decision to give Tech a 2-0 advantage. The Red Raiders would grab their third point from sophomore Ilgiz Valiev, who won his match in two sets. Ribero would once again come in clutch for Tech, as he clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win on court five.
The Red Raiders will round out their non-conference slate with a match against Rice tomorrow at noon. The Red Raiders will then head to Austin on Friday, March 29th to begin conference play. Tech will travel to Fort Worth before closing out the regular season with three home matches.
