
Red Raiders Place Third at Bruzzy Challenge

Garcia earns runner-up honors as she leads Tech to medalist position
ARGYLE, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team concluded play at the second annual Bruzzy Challenge in third place on Tuesday.

The Red Raiders shot a combined 3-under 861 through three rounds of play and finished higher than four ranked opponents, including No. 2 Texas and No. 19 TCU.

"This was a good week for us," head coach JoJo Robinson said. "I think the way we played proved to us that we can play with some of the best out there. We'll keep getting better and work on getting more comfortable when we are close to the lead. I'm really proud of their effort this week."

Tech was led by sophomore Sofia Garcia, who recorded her third consecutive top-three finish in stroke play competition following a 6-under performance, as she finished in a tie for third, just three shots back of first place.

Cecilie Nielsen also finished the tournament under par, as the freshman completed the Bruzzy at 1-under par, placing her in a tie for 14th overall.

Louisa Brunt and Anna Dong notched top-30 finishes on Tuesday, as Brunt shot 2-over and Dong went 3-over to finish in a tie for 25th and a tie for 28th, respectively.

Senior Mami Yamamoto rounded out team play for the Red Raiders, as she concluded play at 5-over par and tied for 39th.

Destiny Arenas, who competed as an individual, finished at 34-over for her tournament.

The Red Raiders have resolved their regular season schedule and will return to action on Sunday, April 14th at the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
