Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 7 Texas

Felicity Maltby upsets No. 17-ranked singles player
AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 29 Lady Raider Tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 7 Texas on Sunday afternoon.
Texas Tech fell to 15-5 on the season, 5-2 in Big 12 play. The Longhorns improved to 13-3 on the season, 6-0 in Big 12 play.
No. 55 senior Felicity Maltby highlighted the match with an upset over the No. 17-ranked Bianca Turati in three sets. After falling 7-5 in the first set, Maltby fought back to tie the match at 1-1 with a 6-4 victory in set two. she sealed the win with a 10-4 score in the tiebreaker set to pick up Texas Tech's only point of the day.
"I'm really excited for Felicity. She is really doing her best to show unconditional competitiveness to this young group," Head Coach Todd Petty said. "That was on-stage big time down the stretch and it was good for this young team to learn from."
The win marked her highest ranked win of her career.

The Lady Raiders return to the McLeod Tennis Center next weekend to host Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in the final weekend of the Big 12 play. The Lady Raiders welcome the Sooners on Friday for a 5 p.m. first serve and face Oklahoma on Sunday at noon. Texas Tech will honor Felicity Maltby and Lana Rush as a part of senior day on Sunday.
