Lady Raider Tennis Earns First Win of 2020 over Iowa

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team picked up its first dual win of the 2020 season on Saturday afternoon, knocking off Iowa, 4-1, on the second day of ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Texas Tennis Center.

Tech took the doubles point with wins on courts two and three to start the match with a 1-0 lead. After Lisa Mays and Nell Miller came up short to Iowa's Elise Van Heuvelen and Michelle Bacalla on court one, Lady Raiders Olivia Peet and Margarita Skriabina responded with a 6-3 victory over Ashleigh Jacobs and Danielle Bauers.

The point was clinched on court three, where Reagan Collins and Kennedy Bridgforth earned the 6-4 win over Samantha Mannix and Danielle Burich.

In singles, Texas Tech expanded its lead to 6-2, 6-2 as freshman Bojana Marinkov tallied her first collegiate dual singles win over Iowa's Danielle Bauers.

After Iowa got on the board with a win on court one, Olivia Peet stretched the Tech lead to 3-1 at No. 2. Peet knocked off Samantha Mannix, 6-2, 7-5, for her first win of the weekend.

Nell Miller clinched the match for the Lady Raiders, defeating Michelle Bacalla, 6-3, 6-4. After the match was retired, Kennedy Bridgforth led by a set at No. 6 and Lisa Mays was tied 2-all in the third set on court three.

Texas Tech will travel to Mississippi next weekend for a pair of battles against Ole Miss and Mississippi State in Oxford on Friday and Saturday.
