Lady Raiders Fall Short at Ole Miss, 4-3

OXFORD, Miss. – The Texas Tech women's tennis team came up just short in a hard-fought match at Ole Miss on Friday afternoon, falling 4-3.
The match opened in doubles, where the Lady Raiders and Rebels traded dominant wins on courts one and three. Ole Miss struck first with a 6-1 win from Sabina Machalova and Alexa Bortles over Tech's Lisa Mays and Nell Miller. Texas Tech responded with a 6-1 win as Reagan Collins and Kennedy Bridgforth defeated Ole Miss's Vic de Samucewicz and Kelsey Mize at No. 3.
The doubles point came down to court two where Olivia Peet and Margarita Skriabina were in a battle with 57th-ranked Anna Vrbenska and Tereza Janatova. After the Ole Miss duo erased a two-game Tech lead to tie the match at 5-all, Peet and Skriabina won two consecutive games to clinch the 7-5 win and the doubles point.
Miller would stretch the Lady Raider lead to open singles play, defeating Kelsey Mize, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 to make Tech's lead 2-0. It marked Miller's second win in dual play this season.
After the Rebels picked up a pair of wins on courts two and three, the Lady Raiders got back on the board on court six as Kennedy Bridgforth earned a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Vic de Samucewicz for her first dual win of the season.
Ole Miss went on to take wins on courts one and two to lock up the victory.
The Lady Raiders will be back in action on Saturday at noon when they take on Mississippi State.
