
Lady Raider Tennis Set to Take on Ole Miss, Mississippi State

LUBBOCK, Texas  – The Texas Tech women's tennis team heads back out on the road this weekend when the Lady Raiders travel to Oxford, Miss., for the Big 12/SEC Tennis Challenge. Texas Tech will face off with Ole Miss on Friday at 1 p.m., and finish the weekend on Saturday with Mississippi State at noon.

ABOUT THE EVENT
The Big 12/SEC Challenge features a handful of men's and women's teams from the Big 12 and Southeastern conferences that collide in Oxford for a pair of dual matches. On the women's side, Texas Tech and Baylor represent the Big 12, while Ole Miss and Mississippi State represent the SEC.

ABOUT THE LADY RAIDERS
The Lady Raiders are coming off a split ITA Kickoff Weekend in which they dropped their dual season opener to LSU before coming up with a 4-1 victory over Iowa to wrap up the event. Texas Tech fields one of the youngest lineups in the country this season, with a freshman class that was the No. 4 recruiting class in the nation last fall. The Lady Raiders are young, but talented—playing three freshmen and three sophomores in their starting singles lineup.

LAST TIME OUT
The Texas Tech women's tennis team picked up its first dual win of the 2020 season on Saturday afternoon, knocking off Iowa, 4-1, on the second day of ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Texas Tennis Center.

Tech took the doubles point with wins on courts two and three to start the match with a 1-0 lead. The point was clinched on court three, where Reagan Collins and Kennedy Bridgforth earned the 6-4 win over Samantha Mannix and Danielle Burich.

In singles, Bojana Marinkov, Olivia Peet and Nell Miller all picked up wins to clinch the match.

ABOUT OLE MISS AND MISSISSIPPI STATE
Ole Miss enters Saturday's matchup with the Lady Raiders at 3-1 overall on the season with three dominant wins over Memphis, UT Martin and Utah. The Rebels' only loss so far in 2020 was a 4-2 decision at No. 15 Michigan last weekend. Ole Miss returns a handful of veterans from the 2019 season, including 2018 All-American Alexa Bortles and this year's ITA Southern Region Player to Watch Sabina Machalova.

Mississippi State is 4-1 on the season, coming off a 4-2 win over Kansas State last Sunday. The Bulldogs opened ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-3 loss to Tulsa, to follow a 3-0 start where they were able to tally wins over Troy, Samford and Xavier. Mississippi State is led by No. 84 Emma Antonaki and a pair of top-50 doubles teams.

Next weekend, the Lady Raiders will travel to Houston for a quick road contest with Rice on Saturday, Feb. 8 at noon.
