Texas Tech continues search for first win with return to DFW.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will head to Fort Worth for a Friday night showdown with No. 6 TCU. The Red Raiders will be seeking their first three-point effort of the fall.
"We are looking forward to the battle ahead," said head coach Tom Stone. "Our group continues to battle right now and grow into their full identity. I could not be more excited about the players who have stepped forward this year – regardless of the role we have asked of them."
After being held scoreless in its first two games, the Tech offense has scored three times in the last two weekends. Charlotte Teeter netted two at Oklahoma, then assisted Kirsten Davis' first goal of the season on a perfectly-executed free kick against No. 9 West Virginia.
Since 2012, the Red Raiders and Horned Frogs are deadlocked at 4-4-2 in head-to-head matches. However, it is TCU who has avoided defeat against Tech since 2015. Recently, the two squads have ended each others' Big 12 Championship hopes each of the last two years; Tech knocked TCU out on penalties in 2018 before the Horned Frogs dispatched Tech from Kansas City last season.
Stone believes the sense of rivalry with TCU come not only from the closeness of the games in years passed but also from the demographics of the programs: over half of Tech's roster hails from the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
"Going to Dallas for games is always special with so many players from the Metroplex," said Stone. "It's too bad we can't have our usual rowdy Red Raiders fans with us at TCU this season, but it's the same all over. We do get our families there, so that's a big positive. It's going to be a good one."
First touch in Fort Worth is set for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
