Red Raiders Return to Links at Cowgirl Classic
October 21, 2020 | Women's Golf
Texas Tech tees off the two-day tournament Thursday morning from Karsten Creek in Stillwater
LUBBOCK, Texas – JoJo Robertson will return to her alma mater this week as the Texas Tech women's golf team will open the Cowgirl Classic hosted by Oklahoma State on Thursday morning in Stillwater.
Â
This will be only the second time in Robertson's now 12 seasons at Tech where she has coached in a tournament at Karsten Creek Golf Club as Red Raider alumnae Kimmy Hill played the course in 2014 during the NCAA Central Regional. It will be Tech's first appearance as a team at the Cowgirl Classic.
Â
Besides the familiar surroundings in Stillwater, Robertson will also recognize one other familiar face in her brother, Oklahoma State head coach Greg Robertson. The two siblings have faced each other often throughout their respective coaching careers as Greg Robertson previously built a strong program at Kent State before accepting the Oklahoma State position this past summer.
Â
The Cowgirl Classic will feature another Big 12-heavy lineup for the Red Raiders as Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma and TCU all join host Oklahoma State in the 11-team field that also includes BYU and North Texas. Each of Tech's previous two tournaments this fall have also been composed of primarily conference foes.
Â
Robertson will turn to juniors Sofia Garcia and Amy Taylor to lead a lineup that also consists of sophomores Anna Dong and Cecilie Nielsen and redshirt freshman Gala Dumez. Fellow freshman Pyrene Delample will also make the trip as an individual.
Â
Nielsen wrapped the Betsy Rawls Invitational in a tie for eighth individually just over a week ago to help lead Tech to a seventh-place finish as a team. It was Nielsen's second career top-10 showing and the second for a Red Raider this season as Garcia previously opened the year in a tie for sixth at the Schooner Fall Classic hosted by Oklahoma. Tech concluded that event in fifth place as Dong also recorded a top-15 finish of her own.
Â
The Red Raiders are slated to tee off in an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start for the first of two rounds Thursday. Tech will conclude the two-day event with a similar start Friday for the final 18 holes.
