Kozarski’s Goal Nets Tech Win on Senior Night

Freshman score sends Red Raiders home winners on Senior Night.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Gisselle Kozarski's first collegiate goal lifted Texas Tech to a 1-0 win over Iowa State Friday night.
"For the coaching staff, the feeling is relief," said head coach Tom Stone. "For the players, it's elation. They've worked hard while all these teams are dealing with the COVID crisis. It was a tough week and we lost some people. Despite having more players out of uniform than in uniform, the team came together Thursday with such a great attitude. We had such a short bench and a lot of girls accepted the challenge and gave it their all to get the win."
Nearing the end of a Tech-dominated first half, Kozarski fought her way into the middle of the box after a cross from Kirsten Davis struck the head of a Cyclone defender. Kozarski found it right as it bounced at the top of the box, one-timing it into the left side of the net to open scoring.
"I knew I wanted to make a difference," Kozarski said. "A lot of crosses were coming in and nobody was getting on the end of them, and I knew I had to. It's senior night and I wanted to make a difference. The cross came in and I finished it with my left foot."
The goal was the first of the freshman forward's career.
Kozarski's score came in the 42nd minute, marking the first time the Red Raiders have led in a game this season.
In the winning effort, Davis put all four of her shots on goal. Hannah Anderson took a career-high four shots and put two on net. Tech keeper Madison White faced no shots while the back line held the Cyclones to four shots compared to Tech's 12.
Tech will hit the road next week, set for a showdown with No. 12 Oklahoma State. First touch is set for 7 p.m. The game will stream on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
