Texas Tech Falls to No. 1 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Tech volleyball team fell to No. 1 Texas in three sets Friday night at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.
Texas Tech (3-7) fell to top-ranked Texas (10-0) 25-17, 25-15, 25-12. The Red Raiders recorded a season-high eight aces in the match. Lindsey Dodson, Brooke Kanas and Samantha Sanders each tallied a pair of aces while Emerson Solano and Allison Bloss added an ace of their own.
The Red Raiders got off to a promising start in the first set as Kanas registered back-to-back aces to put Tech up 7-6. Texas responded with two aces of their own to jump ahead of the Red Raiders and didn't look back. The Longhorns tallied eight of the next 11 points to close out the first set, 25-17.
Texas jumped out to a commanding 10-2 lead to start the second set before Alex Kirby registered the next two kills to try and spark a Red Raider run. However, the Longhorns used a 6-0 run to pull away and take a 20-8 lead. The Red Raiders responded with aces from Sanders and Bloss to close the gap to 22-13. A service error from Tech ended the second set to give Texas the two-set advantage.
The third set began like the second, with Texas racing out to a 10-3 lead. Sanders tallied her second ace of the night and the eighth overall for the Red Raiders to bring things to 11-5. The top-ranked Longhorns finished the third set with 10-5 run to take down the Red Raiders 25-12 in three sets.
The Red Raiders will get a much-needed week of rest after playing two top-ranked opponents in a row. Texas Tech returns to United Supermarkets Arena on Nov. 6 and 7 to face Kansas State.
