Red Raiders Sweep Sooners in Home Finale

Texas Tech volleyball closed out the final home stand with its first sweep of Oklahoma since 2005.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech volleyball team swept Oklahoma for the first time in 15 years Friday evening at United Supermarkets Arena to go undefeated on the weekend.
Texas Tech (5-8) won the match 25-12, 25-20, 25-23 as Oklahoma (2-8) struggled to establish any momentum. The Red Raiders held the Sooners to a .171 hitting percentage.
A balanced offensive attack was the key for the Red Raiders as Samantha Sanders and Brooke Kanas each registered double-digit kills with 11 and 10. Caitlin Dugan added eight kills while Alex Kirby recorded five kills, 30 assists and nine digs.
Tech dominated the opening set, taking a commanding 8-1 lead to start the match. Back-to-back Sanders kills and an ace from Dugan made it 11-2 and forced an Oklahoma timeout. An ace from Sanders put Tech up 13 and gave the Red Raiders set point. The Sooners would hold off the first match point, but Kanas put away the first set with a kill. Texas Tech hit .321 in the first set while Oklahoma was held to -.034 hitting percentage.
The second set started off rocky as both teams had multiple errors, but the Red Raiders began to pull away after a kill from Sanders and an ace from Allison Bloss made it 9-4. Dugan came alive in the second set, recording three kills in a row to increase the Red Raider lead to 13-6. Oklahoma pulled back within two to force a Texas Tech timeout at 19-17. The Red Raiders used the timeout to regroup and record the next two points out of the break. Out of an Oklahoma timeout, Kirby served up an ace to put the Red Raiders up 22-17. Dugan and Bloss teamed up for a block at set point to take the second set 25-20.
The third set was a battle as Oklahoma was desperate to force a fourth while Tech was determined to finish things off. Kanas came up with some big kills and assisted on a block to give the Red Raiders an 11-7 advantage. The Sooners came storming back with a 4-0 run to tie things up at 13 and force Tech to take a timeout. Guewe Diouf willed the Sooners to a 19-17 advantage with the next five points for Oklahoma. With Oklahoma up 22-19, Kanas tallied her 10th kill of the match and Mackenzie Morgan followed with an ace to bring the Red Raiders within one. Sanders tied it at 22 with a clutch kill and two attack errors from Oklahoma gave Tech two match points. Diouf spoiled the first, but Sanders finished off the match with her 11th kill to give the Red Raiders the win.
Texas Tech closes out the 2020 season on the road at Kansas on Nov. 19 and 20.
