The Lady Raiders look to continue their hot start this weekend after drubbing the Vaqueros of UTRGV in their season opener on Wednesday.

In her first season at the helm of her alma mater, Krista Gerlich has brought in a load of new talent to pair with a number of significant returners. The Texas Tech roster is headlined by All-American newcomer Vivian Gray, Chrislyn Carr and Lexi Gordon. The Lady Raiders also bring in four freshmen, and transfers Bryn Gerlich and Najé Murray to pair with other key returners, including Alexis Tucker, Andrayah Adams and Maka Jackson.

Gerlich came to Lubbock this summer after a successful seven seasons at UT Arlington, which followed a seven years as the head coach at West Texas A&M.

EYEING THE OPPONENT
The Houston Baptist Huskies are coming off a tough start to their season after dropping an 83-54 game at Rice on Wednesday. The Huskies' top returning scorer is sophomore guard Timia Jefferson, who averaged 10.3 points per game -- the most among Southland Conference freshmen last season. The Huskies also return their leading rebounder and shot blocker in junior center Marilyn Nzoiwu, who averaged 5.1 boards per game and rejected 35 shots last year. The Huskies are led by eighth-year head coach Donna Finnie, who owns a 74-130 record since arriving at Houston Baptist in 2013.

- The Lady Raiders and Huskies are set to meet for the fifth time in the two programs' histories this weekend. Tech holds a 4-0 record in the previous four meetings.

The Lady Raiders (1-0) were led by Vivian Gray who scored 24 points and added eight rebounds and three assists in her Texas Tech debut. Alexis Tucker and Lexi Gordon poured in 18 points apiece, while Chrislyn Carr posted 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Freshman Khyla Wade-Warren recorded 10 points and six rebounds in her first collegiate game.

Texas Tech recorded 18 assists to only nine turnovers—its lowest single-game turnover total in almost two seasons. The Lady Raiders shot 50 percent (33-of-66), and held the Vaqueros to 23-of-62 shooting (37 percent).
