February 23, 2020 | Women's Tennis
FORT WORTH, Texas  – The Texas Tech women's tennis team came back from a slow start to pick up an impressive win on Sunday afternoon, knocking off TCU, 4-1, in a nonconference road match at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
Â
The Lady Raiders (4-5) started the match out in a 1-0 hole, as the Horned Frogs took the doubles point with wins on courts one and three; however, doubles would be the last point TCU scored on the day, as Texas Tech ran off four-straight wins in singles to clinch the match.
Â
Texas Tech got on the board quickly as TCU's Kate Paulus retired on court four, giving Lady Raider sophomore Nell Miller the win and tying the match at one-all.
Â
Freshman Margarita Skriabina gave Texas Tech the lead for good as she defeated Stevie Kennedy in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. It marked Skriabina's fourth-straight dual win.
Â
Bojana Marinkov earned her third dual win of the season to stretch the Texas Tech advantage to 3-1 and put the Horned Frogs' backs against the wall. The Lady Raider freshman defeated TCU's Margaret Polk, 7-6, 6-1.
Â
It was freshman Lisa Mays that clinched the Lady Raider win, defeating Mercedes Aristegui, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. Mays moved to 3-2 since moving to the No. 2 spot in singles last week.
Â
The Lady Raiders continue their roadtrip on Saturday when they travel to Tempe, Ariz., to face off with No. 24 Arizona State.
