
Lady Raider Tennis Faces off with No. 26 Sun Devils

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team travels to Tempe, Ariz., this weekend to take on 26th-ranked Arizona State this weekend. First serve between the Lady Raiders and Sun Devils is set for 11 a.m. CT.

ABOUT THE LADY RAIDERS
Texas Tech is coming off an impressive, 4-1, win over Big 12 rival TCU in a non-conference match last weekend that snapped a two-match skid. The Lady Raiders have one ranked singles player and one ranked doubles team that appeared in the latest ITA individual rankings. Freshman Margarita Skriabina received her first career singles ranking, coming in at No. 107 in the latest poll. In doubles, Lisa Mays and Nell Miller came in at No. 50. Head coach Todd Petty has fielded a young lineup for the Lady Raiders this season, which features three freshmen and three sophomores along with one senior.Â

Ranked No. 26 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Arizona State enters this Saturday's match at 9-4 overall, coming off a 5-0 loss at No. 6 Ohio State last weekend. The Sun Devils have three ranked singles players in No. 38 Ilze Hattingh, No. 91 Savannah Slaysman and No. 120 Sammi Hampton. Arizona State has a couple of ranked wins this season over then-No. 9 Vanderbilt in Nashville and a neutral win over No. 38 Kentucky.

The Texas Tech women's tennis team came back from a slow start to pick up an impressive win on Sunday afternoon, knocking off TCU, 4-1, in a nonconference road match at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The Lady Raiders (4-5) started the match out in a 1-0 hole, as the Horned Frogs took the doubles point with wins on courts one and three; however, doubles would be the last point TCU scored on the day, as Texas Tech ran off four-straight wins in singles to clinch the match.

The Lady Raiders will open up conference play next weekend when they travel to face Oklahoma State (Friday, 6 p.m.) and Oklahoma (Sunday, 2 p.m.).
