Conley Named Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week

Third Tech freshman honored by the league office this season
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Cal Conley received Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week accolades this week after helping the Red Raiders to a 5-0 week, including a three-game sweep of Rice over the weekend.

This is the first weekly award for Conley and the fourth overall for Texas Tech this season. The redshirt freshman shortstop joins senior Brian Klein and fellow freshmen Nate Rombach and Jace Jung as Red Raiders that have been recognized by the league office through the first four weeks.

Conley led the league with 11 hits for the week and finished tied for the league-lead with 10 RBI. In four of Tech's five wins, he doubled and recorded multi-hit games. He finished the week with a .524 batting average, which ranked second in the conference behind only Klein.

The Mount Carmel, Ohio, native is hitting .397 for the season, which leads all Red Raider freshmen and ranks fourth on the team. He ranks second on the club with 23 RBI, second in doubles, third in stolen bases and tied for third with three home runs.

Conley and the Red Raiders travel to Biloxi, Miss., for a Top-10 midweek showdown with No. 10 Mississippi State. The first game of the two-game set begins Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT inside MGM Park, home of the Biloxi Shuckers.
