Lady Raiders Battle Kansas, Kansas State on Day One in Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team began its 2021 spring schedule on Monday at the Big 12/Pac-12 Mock Duals, facing off with Big 12 foes Kansas and Kansas State at the Arlington Tennis Center.

Matched up against Kansas in the first doubles action of the week, the Lady Raiders split two matches against the Jayhawks. Lisa Mays and Margarita Skriabina—both seeing their first matches of the 2020-21 season—picked up a 6-4 win. Bojana Marinkov and Oliva Peet hung tight with Sonia Smagina and Vasiliki Karvouni, but came up just short in a 7-5 match.

In singles, Texas Tech was able to take two wins from Kansas State, with Peet and Marinkov tallying victories.

Peet swept Kansas State's Anna Turco, 6-2, 6-2 for her first singles action of the spring. Marinkov made her first appearance of the 2020-21 season for Tech in tallying a 7-6, 6-4 win over Manami Ukita.

Two of the Lady Raiders' singles losses came in narrow, three-set decisions. Mays dropped a tough, 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 battle with Karine-Marion Job, while Skriabrina came up short to Rosanna Maffei, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4.

In her first match as a Lady Raider, freshman Metka Komac fell to Lilla Barzo, 6-3, 6-2.

The Lady Raiders will be continue play in Arlington on Tuesday before wrapping up the spring opener on Wednesday.
