MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball team fought all 40 minutes, but came up short, 83-78, on Wednesday night at WVU Coliseum.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Led by a season high 28 points from Vivian Gray, the Lady Raiders went blow for blow with the Mountaineers, who were coming off a 92-58 win over then-No. 17 Texas in the same building last weekend.

Gray, who scored 15 in the second half, was one rebound short of a double-double, pulling down nine boards to go along with three assists, two steals and three blocks. Gray was one of four Lady Raiders in double figures, followed by Najé Murray who had a season high 18 points. Maka Jackson and Lexi Gordon each had 11 points on the night—Jackson's a new season high, and Gordon's 11 all scored in the second half.

Led by Gray's seven points and Murray's five in the opening frame, Texas Tech got out to an early lead in what would turn out to be a back-and-forth first period; however, West Virginia scored 10 of the final 15 points of the first quarter to lead 21-14 after the first 10 minutes of play.

Led by eight points from Gray in the second period, the Lady Raiders trailed by eight heading to the half, after holding West Virginia to 36.8 percent shooting in the second quarter.

Tech outscored the Mountaineers, 28-25, in the third quarter to cut the deficit to five heading into the final 10 minutes of play. Gray, Gordon, Murray and Alexis Tucker each had five or more points in the frame, as the Lady Raiders shot 8-of-15 in the quarter and turned the ball over only one time.

Gray added eight more in the fourth, including a long three to pull Texas Tech within four with under a minute to play; however, the Mountaineers did just enough to keep the Lady Raiders at bay and finish off the win.
