Tech returns home on Thursday, Oct. 7 to face Oklahoma State
AUSTIN, Texas. – The Texas Tech soccer team (9-3-1, 2-2-0 Big 12) dropped a 1-0 game to Texas Sunday afternoon at the Mike. A. Myers Soccer Field. The loss snaps a three-game win streak vs UT dating back to 2018.Â
Â
"First, UT played well and that should not be ignored. However, our points of emphasis were adhered too well, and we only gave up two to three chances over the entire 90 minutes," said head coach Tom Stone. "Madi was there to make two big saves as she has done for us all season. The downside of the first 45 minutes were the two crossbars we hit – one of those needed to go in so we were not chasing the game coming out of halftime."
Â
Texas (7-3-3, 3-0-1 Big 12) jumped on the board early scoring in the eighth minute of the game as Julia Gross fired off a shot into the left corner of the net near the penalty kick spot. Charlotte Teeter would have a pair of shots blocked over the next few minutes by the UT backline but TTU's closest opportunities arrived in the 33rd minute. Sprinting off the left wing, Kirsten Davis launched a shot off the left post as Macy Schultz' put-back attempt hit the crossbar.Â
Â
"With UT having a lot of the ball, we changed our set-up defensively, and were able to pick off several balls played through the middle," added Stone. "We looked to set the counter, but those transition moments went missing when we had trouble connecting the top line. Once we won it, and they were expansive and therefore vulnerable, but our connectivity just wasn't there today."Â
Â
In the second half, Tech recorded one shot on goal which came off the foot of Macy Blackburn in the 63rd minute. Inside the final 40 seconds, Schultz had a great look from inside the middle of the 18-yard box but the shot sailed high.
Â
"We had subbed accordingly to give us some fresh legs in the oppressive heat for the late game push," added Stone. "In that span, we created the by far the best chance of the game for either team, but we hit it over with under a minute remaining or we would've forced overtime. I would've liked our chances with that momentum on our side."
Â
The Red Raiders registered five total shots in the half. Keeper Madison White finished the contest securing three saves.Â
Â
The Longhorns edged the Red Raiders in shots, 12-10, as four of them for UT came on goal.Â
