RECAP: Strong serve leads Texas Tech in sweep over TCU

The Red Raiders tallied eight aces from five players in the win.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech volleyball team (14-10, 4-7) picked up a much-needed win defeating TCU (8-11, 2-7) in three sets Friday night at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock.
The Red Raiders tallied eight aces in the match, tied for the second most this season, with three from Alex Kirby, two from Karrington Jones and one apiece from Kenna Sauer, Alex Torres and Maddie Correa.
Two Red Raiders recorded double-digit kills led by Caitlin Dugan with 11 on a .381 hitting clip and Reagan Cooper with 10 kills. Jones and Brooke Kanas held down the middle with nine and eight kills respectively while adding a couple of blocks each. Kirby's 40 assists were the most in a three set match this season for the senior.
The Red Raiders opened the match with a 25-18 set one win, using a 10-2 run to close out the frame. TCU led Tech by one at the media timeout, 15-14, but the Red Raiders tallied five of the next seven points out of the break to take a 19-17 lead. After a TCU timeout the Red Raiders tallied four straight points to ride a 6-0 run and make it 23-17. A kill from Dugan created set point for the Red Raiders and an attack error ended the set to give Tech the early advantage.
TCU kept the second set close, but Tech was able to edge out the Horned Frogs 25-23 to take a two-set advantage in the match. The Red Raiders pulled ahead late with a kill from Kanas and a TCU attack error to make it 20-18 and force the Horned Frogs to use a timeout. TCU tied the match at 21 and again at 23 but a service error gave Tech set point and Jones slammed the door with an ace to end the set.
The Horned Frogs led early in the third set, using a 6-2 run to go ahead by three, 11-8. Tech took the lead on back-to-back kills from Dugan as the Red Raiders rallied for four straight points. A service ace from Correa put Tech ahead by three, 18-15, as TCU called a timeout. After the timeout the Horned Frogs chipped away at the lead, using a 4-1 run to pull within one and force the Red Raiders to call their first timeout of the match at 21-20. Three straight Tech points gave the Red Raiders match point at 24-20. TCU fought off a couple of match points before a kill from Dugan ended the match for Tech's second conference sweep of the season.
