Tech Sweeps West Virginia, 7-0, in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The Texas Tech women's tennis team got back on track on Sunday afternoon, sweeping West Virginia, 7-0, for the team's first Big 12 road win. It marked the team's third Big 12 sweep this season.

With West Virginia unable to field a full lineup, Tech opened the match with a 1-0 lead due to a walkover on six singles and an automatic doubles win on court three. Lisa Mays and Kaitlin Staines made it a quick doubles point, sweeping Nadya Maslova and Anastasia Bovolskaia, 6-0, on court one. It moved the duo to 7-2 together this season.

With a 2-0 advantage after the doubles point, Tech quickly picked up four straight-set wins to not only clinch the match but stretch the Lady Raider lead to 6-0.

Nell Miller was the first Lady Raider to pick up a singles win, taking down Amber Fuller, 6-3, 6-3, for her fourth-straight win. Miller is now 9-3 in dual singles matches this season and 13-8 overall.

Kaitlin Staines finished shortly after with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Momoko Nagato on court two that would be the clincher.

On court one, Mays tallied her fifth-straight win in a 6-1, 7-6(1) triumph over Anastasia Bovolskaia. The win moved the freshman to 10-1 in dual singles matches this season and 4-0 in Big 12 play.

Bojana Marinkov picked up her second win of the weekend in a 6-3, 6-4 win over West Virginia's Anne-Sophie Courteau on the five singles line.

Finally, Margarita Skriabina finished off the sweep, coming back from a tough first set loss to win, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (5) over Nadya Maslova to move to a perfect 11-0 in dual singles action.

The Lady Raiders will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to to face Tulsa, which will begin a three-match stretch in Oklahoma.
